PRACTICAL INFORMATION FOR PARTICIPANTS

GETTING TO PORTUGAL
✈️ By Airplane
You will arrive at Lisbon’s only airport, Humberto Delgado.

Transportation from the Airport: There are different ways for you to get to your destination, such as the bus, metro, taxi and Uber or similar platforms.

🚍 Bus – After going through the arrivals gate at the exit of Terminal 1, you will find the Aerobus stop. This transport service provides frequent departures from the airport, ensuring connections between the city’s main points, the bus terminal in Sete Rios and the railroad in Entrecampos, Cais do Sodré and the two airport terminals. https://www.carris.pt/en

🚖 Taxi and Uber/Bolt – Both are available 24h. You can find the taxis at the arrivals gate of Terminal 1 and call an Uber at the Terminal 1 exit.

🚇 Metro -The city of Lisbon has a good subway line. At the airport (Terminal 1), there is a station called “Aeroporto”; from there, you can reach various parts of the city. https://www.metrolisboa.pt/en/Train

🚋 PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IN LISBON
Lisbon can be easily explored using public transportation – including the metro, trams, and buses, but also commuter trains and ferries if you want to explore nearby areas like Sintra, Cascais, or the different towns on the South of the river Tejo.

You can travel in all these transports using the same card, the Navegante. You can purchase a card at any metro station machine, post offices, or Payshop. The card costs 0,50€ and can be topped up with credit using the zapping modality. The price per trip varies according to the type of transport, ranging between 1,80€ (metro and bus) to 3€ (ferry).

🪩 LISBON CULTURAL
Lisbon has a lot to offer. From Classical art to Modernism, from historic palaces to buildings designed by contemporary architects. Some suggestions include the Museu Coleção Berardo, Museu do Azulejo, Gulbenkian, Museu de Arte Contemporânea, and MAAT, among others. If you want to visit several museums, the Lisboa Card might be a good option, offering 24/48/72-hour passes and access to public transportation.

☀️ WEATHER FORECAST
The weather in September, as Summer approaches its end, is usually warm and sunny – the average temperatures are usually around 24ºC, but can also reach 33ºC. Rainy days are usually rare, but there may be some cold nights. For more information, consult this link.

💶 CURRENCY
Lisbon, like most of Europe, uses the Euro. You will find ATMs everywhere (including at the conference venue) and credit and debit cards are accepted in most places. However, it is advisable to carry cash as foreign cards are at times not accepted (and certain services, like some taxis, can be cash-only).
